well I accidentally dropped a chisel on my guitar and now I need to repair the FP. It is about a 1 by 1 square that needs to be touched up. Should I us the same set up I used for my real FP only much smaller? I really could use some suggestions. |

Did it cut the wood or just make a dent? If it just made a dent, you can steam it out, just like you would with raw wood. Use distilled water, and the tip of a hot iron. Put water in the dent, and let it sit for a couple of minutes. Then cover with a wet paper towel, folded several times. Put the hot iron on the paper towel for 5 or 10 seconds, then check. Repeat, till the ding is raised. It will actually come back to the point you will have to sand it down a bit. Do it carefully, and try not to damage the surrounding finish any more than possible. Come back and work the area, as well as the area around it. You might want to go over the whole top, or back, or whatever part is damaged, before you are done, to even out the color. If the fibers of the wood are cut, it may not work very well. |
